Dec. 17-21, 2012

Wearable Art -  Trade Party on the 18th.  Students will clean/organize in the classroom this week, as well as review information and study for final.

Art I - students will receive pts for participation for cleaning this week.   Students will take a Filial Friday exam, end of Quarter 2 exam, in addition to the final this week.   Exams this week equal 300 pts. a significant amount.


2D/3D Art - Students will help with the cleaning of the clay room.  We will review and study art history this week as well as take the final.  No students shall be working in clay this week!

Dec. 10-14, 2012

Wearable Art - Students turn in all clay pieces for design challenge on Monday, these will be fired Monday and returned to students on Tuesday, project will then be turned in on Friday.   Students will continue to work on PMC pendants which need to be turned in by Wed.   This week students will be given a Trade Party Assignment, each student will need to make a certain number of pieces to trade with classmates, Trade Party set for Dec. 18th.


Art I - Wed. all Radial Symmetry designs will be turned in, these projects are worth 100 pts. and are the last studio project of the semester.   Filial Friday presentation will be over graphic design.  Students should begin to study for the end of quarter exams.

2D/3D Art - Class continues to work on sculptural ceramics heritage project, these will be turned in on Wednesday.  Critique and Filial Friday to end the week out.   Review techniques and project vocabulary for final.

Dec. 3-7, 2012

Wearable Art - Monday - class critique over soldered rings.   Turn in Altered books with Design Challenge page.  Design challenge piece due with class critique on Friday, the 7th.   Tuesday introduce Metal Clay project.

Art I - students will turn in sketchbook with radial design name page.    If design passes inspection, students will begin to transfer design to larger paper.       We will work on this all week.

2D/3D art - Students continue to work on Sculptural Ceramic assignment. Progress grades will be given on Friday.  Sketchbook page -short artist report- due on Thurs.

Nov. 26- 30, 2012

Wearable Art - Students are working on Band Ring Project.  Progress grades will be given on Friday the 30th.  Due date for this project is Dec. 5th.

Art I --- Students are finishing up on Collagraph Prints this week.  Quiz over Printmaking on Wed. Filial Friday presentation on Friday, new presentation of project on Thurs.
No Sketchbook this week!

2D/3D Art ---   Individual projects due at beginning of the week.   Begin Sculptural Ceramic project.  This project is based on student's heritage, incorporating family history into assignment, may contain abstract design.
Students have 2 weeks to work on this assignment.

Nov. 5- 9th, 2012

Wearable Art ---- T-shirt design due by Thursday of this week.   Soldered hoop earrings due on Wed.  Altered book pages over hoop earrings and band ring project due at the end of the week.   Band ring designs should include 12 paper models in the A. book.

Art I  - This week students are transferring drawings of perspective images to the newspaper for collage project. These will be due at the end of the week, no sketchbook.

2D/3D Art - Students are working on independent projects, progress grades will be taken at the end of the week.

Wearable Art - students are soldering rings this week for hoop earrings. Altered book spread is earring hoop design.
After hoop completion, students will begin solder ring project with Altered book for ring design.

Art I - We will go over exams from last week.  Students will begin large perspective project using image provided and will give own personal spin on the drawing.  Sketchbook assignment will be to design project based on image received on Monday.

2D/3D Art - students have choice between clay interest and painting, each student has submitted design ideas and will begin on these projects immediately.   Filial Friday exam approaching......

Wearable Art - Turn in Altered book with complete design for rivet piece, including clasp system.
Finish Cold Connection- Rivet piece this week.   Students required to have 3 class periods on glass bead making.

Art I - Monday - turning in Value drawing, class critique on Tuesday.  Notes on perspective and the element of space.  Begin perspective exercises.   Sketchbook theme is FREE design, due on Thurs.

2D/3D Art - Paint A Pet Portrait project due on THURSDAY!!!!!!!!   These paintings will be installed Thursday after school, and on public display Friday during the Pittsburg Art Walk in the windows of the Doggie Bag!     Come by and see our display!

Wearable Art - Create rivets for the cold connection piece, develop plans for finished out the entire jewelry item including clasp making.
Altered book - how will the piece take form extending from the focal point-pendant?  due Thurs.

Art I - Students will be working all week on Value Drawing, these works are worth 100pts.  Potential turn in date is this Friday.   Sketchbook theme is "Movie Character" due on Thursday.

2D/3D Art - Class is working on Paint A Pet project, the goal is to display these paintings on Oct. 19th at the Pittsburg Art Walk in The Doggie Bag window!

Wearable Art -  cutting out 2 shapes from metal, filed and sanded by Friday.   Altered book spread over these shapes and rivet design due on Thursday.

Art I - Sketchbook assignment - draw an ANIMAL, focus on TEXTURE AND VALUE, use all the space include background. Due on Thursday. Students need to bring 3 images for value project, they need to avoid copy written images, 10 pts on Wed.

2D/3D Art - Students are continuing on ink insect drawing.  We will visit the Humane Society on Thursday during class and lunch hour to photograph animals for a "paint a pet" project in conjunction with the Humane Society and the class paintings will be featured at The Doggie Bag on Broadway for the Pittsburg Art Walk, Oct. 19th.  Photos will be printed and work will begin immediately for this special project!

Sept 17-21, 2012

Wearable Art - Turn in Altered book spread for laminate cut outs, due on Thursday. Begin cutting metal with jewelers saw, and work on design with cut metal shapes.

Art I - Sketchbook assignment is to draw a Landscape utilizing VALUE and SPACE as  main components/elements. Sketchbook is due on Thursday. This will be our last week to work on the still life contour line drawing, they will be turned in by Friday.  This drawing is worth 100pts.

2D/3D Art -- Students are continuing a drawing of enlarged insect of choice.  Beginning Monday we will begin India ink application to the pencil drawing.  Drawings 'may' be finished by the end of this week.

Sept. 4-7, 2012

Wearable Art - students are learning the double and triple crochet stitches this week, we will be using these stitches for crochet earrings.  Continue with glass bead making this week.

Art I - Monday students will draw after Picasso's Igor Stravinsky.  Monday students turn in contour line still life, and we begin a larger still life drawing.  Sketchbook is to set up a still life at home and spend multiple hours on that, this is due on Thursday.

2D/3D Art - Students continue on still life drawing in class, they will be turned in on Friday.  Sketchbook is to set up a still life at home and work on this off and on until you have spent multiple hours.

Wearable Art - Students are continuing to rotate through glass bead making, 2 students per day.  Crochet advancing into single and double crochet.

Art I  - Monday will be a workday for finishing the element of art cards, these will be turned in on Tuesday.   Wed - Portfolios are due by/on WED!!!!!!!       Thursday,  sketchbooks will be due on Thursday.


2D/3D Art - Students continue working each day this week on the still life drawing that was set up last week.  Est. amount of time needed for adequate completion is 2-3 weeks drawing time.

Aug. 20-24

Wearable Art -  Students will learn how to single crochet this week.  We will add beads onto chains to create bracelets and anklets.   Glass bead demonstration on Tuesday, begin schedule for students on Wed.  2 students each day rotating every day until all students have been through.  Students may make beads during seminar or after school after properly trained.  First altered book/sketchbook assignment is a Personality spread, it is due on Thursday.

 Art I  - Continue with the element of Line this week.  Students will be drawing every day.  Portfolios are due on Aug. 29th!!!!    First sketchbook assignment is a "self-portrait" and is due on Thursday, 8/23.


2D/3D Art - Students have begun to draw and will continue a warm up this week.  Pencil drawing still life will be the first major assignment.   Sketchbook assignment is a "Free" and is due on Thursday.

May 7-11, 2012

2D/3D art - students are finishing portrait paintings, critique on Tuesday.  Artist trading cards will be our last project in this class.   Miniature paintings to meet themes will begin Wed. when seniors return.

Wearable art - finish working on independent projects.  cuttlebone casting will be the final project, seniors will begin this project on Wed when they return.   Underclassmen will have options and an alternative to cuttlebone.

Art I - Students will continue on acrylic landscape paintings.  We will have one more painting for underclassmen, or a series of mini-paintings, due to the shortage of time left.   Next week there will be a quarter test for all students over materials covered this 9 week period., color and painting.

May 7- 11, 2012

Adv. Art - turn in paintings, they were finished last week, but have not received pts yet.  Focus on cleaning out cabinet and taking work home.  We will begin small scratch art piece toward the end of the week, this will be senior's last project.

6th hour - working on toothpick sculptures.   Building motifs using minimum of 100 toothpicks, when these are dry, construction begins.  The goal is to build a sculpture using the elements of rhythm unity and movement.

5th and 7th hour classes are continuing in the clay room, they are working on coil projects.

6th hour students are learning about art installations and how are can effect our environment.   6th hour sketchbook assignment is due on Wed. and will be over an installation artist, they must have an image printed in color to go with the critique style sketchbook assignment.

Wearable Art 2/6-2/10

Wearable students are working on steampunk assignment.  Monday demonstration for Apron/Cape/Bustle, all students will be making this project, and they will be due by the end of next week.  Students have 3 projects going at once and must stay self motivated for the duration of these assignments.

2D - 3D ART 2/6-2/10

Students are working in the Clay room.   6 students are working on the potters wheels, this is the 2nd week for them to continue improvement and learn to trim on the wheel.   All other students are working on a slab construction project.

Students are continuing on painting in the style of pointillism or neo-impressionism.   We will be painting into next week as well.

Art I students continue in clay work.   Pinch pot, coil building, and potter's wheel continue to rotate students through after 5 days on the wheel.

Wearable art 1/23 - 1/27

Students will be working on steampunk project this week, progress grades will be taken on Thursday.  Projects must be completely planned out, and have a good start.  20 pts.
 Glass bead making begins this week.  Monday students will watch a short demo video and then we draw names for working on bead making - 2 students per day.

2D - 3D Art 1/23- 1/27

Students will be turning in matted prints, and also the collage geometric still life.  We will begin designing slab construction clay projects using geometric forms as the base.  Sketchbooks will be due Wed. 3 designs.

students will turn in calligraphy sketchbook assignment on Wed. Alphabet in 2 different styles.  Begin Pointillism assignment.  Students will need to bring in photos from home for this assignment.

Art I students are working in clay this 9 week period, this week 5 new students in each class will rotate between the potters wheels, pinch pots and new technique this week is coil construction.   Monday students will be introduced to Norman Rockwell.   Sketchbook assignment will be to continue investigation of Rockwell on their own.   Print out one image, give a visual description of that image, and 5 NEW facts about Rockwell.  Sketchbook due on Thursday.

Continue on cut paper collage of geometric still life.   Students may add foamboard to lift select areas on the project.  This week students will learn to measure and cut matte board.  They will cut a matte for one print they made last quarter.

Advanced art students will finish up on ink drawing this week, and begin calligraphy letter.  Students will learn to mount their ink drawings, which will be finished by this Friday.

This week students will begin in clay.   5 students per class will begin on the potters wheel.   Students will rotate between recycling clay and handbuilt projects.    This week we will begin pinch pot project.

Wearable Art 1/9-1/13

Wearable students will continue on clay bead projects.   We will be visiting the local thrift store, hopefully this week.  Students will need a dollar to purchase a piece for refurbishing.

2D - 3D Art 1/9-1/13

Students continue to make pages of painting exploration.  We will cut these pages into pieces that will serve as a geometric collage.  Students will cut a matte for finished pieces.

Adv. Art 1/9-1/13

This week we will begin to add ink onto last week compositional drawing.   Students will use sticks to dip into India Ink, the ends may be sharpened, or the natural end may be used.

Students will be taking notes and pretesting their knowledge on Clay this week.   Pinch pot demonstration on Friday, with project beginning on Monday!

Students will work on clay bead project this week, focusing on layout, design, and materials.  Clay beads have been fired and will receive coloration this week.

2D - 3D ART

Review students about color and color schemes.  We will make intensity and value scales this week. Students will be exposed to Artists and Images that have a strong Color aspect. And begin a new project next week.

Adv. Art 1/4 - 1/6

Students will be introduced to ink drawing this week.  Wed. we will discuss interesting ways to set up compositions and practice thumbnail sketches.   Thurs. and Fri. students will begin ink drawing, continuing with this technique into next week.
